About The Daybook
I love looking up the etymology of a word and finding out how it’s come to be over time. The words journal and journey share the same root, meaning ‘day.’ My journal is a companion to my journey through life. And that’s why I love it: it sees and helps me process it all, day by day.
The word journey derives from Old French and has a beautifully simple meaning: “one’s path in life.”
Jumbling it up and distilling its meanings over the years down, I quite like thinking of my journal as ‘a day book for one’s path in life.’ It’s for the travelling, the processing and the reflection.
The Daybook is a weekly journaling podcast that offers inspiration, ideas, and insights drawn from over 20 years of personal practice. It’s a space to help those who want to journal, actually journal. Without any consideration of aesthetics or mind-pivoting distractions – this is about pause.
With no screens, visuals, or notifications, it’s designed to be a chance to step away from your devices and into your thoughts. Journaling isn’t something you swipe or hack; it’s a practice that rewards routinely showing up, presence, and honesty. But done on your terms and time. There’s no time you have to show up, you don’t even have to have a pen. I love the thought of you listening as you walk, my voice tailing off and your thoughts continuing to meander. Or, accompanying you and your notebook as you sit at a cafe, or in your comfiest chair at home.
In a world filled with shortcuts and algorithms, journaling remains a timeless endeavour that has no substitute in my eyes. My promise to you is consistency in what I create and share with you, in the hope that these podcasts provide an anchor of accountability, a steady rhythm to help you develop or continue your own.
I’m Sasha and journaling has been my steadfast companion for over two decades. It’s been my dumping ground and confidante. These pages have been both mirror and map—a place to find honesty, curiosity, and growth.
While the words written are usually made up of the simple minutiae of daily life (which tell their own story), every so often, there are profound glimpses of word treasure to be found. With it all being worth acknowledging and collecting, the most important thing that happens is that you build a pattern of hearing yourself and knowing what your voice sounds like. In a world where everyone has a platform and a mouthpiece, and influence feels inescapable, it’s so important to be able to distinguish your voice, thoughts and ideas from everything that screams for attention from the moment you wake up.
I’ve written online in some form for the last decade and hosted online journaling workshops to help others connect with the page since February 2021. I know the power of making space for every emotion, thought, and idea, no matter how, and usually, especially when unpolished. Through that practice, I’ve cultivated a habit of hearing myself—and that’s what I hope to share with you. The Daybook is my way of helping you carve out similar space for yourself.
What to Expect
Each week, you’ll find an inspiration, insight or idea that has influenced, sparked a thought or come from my own practice. Delivered through short podcasts, I hope they feel like a voice note or audio vlog from a friend; offering context, connection, and companionship.
Above all, The Daybook is an unglossy space where you can come as you are. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to journal—just your way. By committing to your own honesty and humanness, I hope you’ll discover the profound value of putting pen to paper and that this space provides a gentle nudge to pause, hear yourself speak and maybe navigate your own path in life.
